Weight - a heavy problem

According to the Word Health Organisation - WHO, obesity is a global epidemic and a chronic condition. Changes in society and advances in technology are some of the factors to blame for increased stress levels which lead to overeating and lack of exercise.

Although research continuous to look into the genetic predisposition for obesity, it is a fact that in the majority of cases obesity is a consequence of energy unbalance. Often the negative eating habits established in childhood become difficult to break in adult life and add to other habits such as smoking and drinking.

Top Tips on Building Confidence

Instantconfidence_1 I have just finished reading a great book on confidence, called 'Instant Confidence' by Paul McKenna.

If you are looking for some D.I.Y confidence coaching I recommend you get a copy for yourself but...

Here are my top 3 learnings taken from the book:

  • Think of someone who is very confident in a particular area and mimic the way they behave, talk, interact and think.
  • Before you have to perform the task or face the situation in which you think you lack confidence, visualise yourself performing the way you would like to handle it.
  • Be brave and face your fears because the more you do the more confident you become, confidence is a skill you can learn it.

Habit = Addiction?

The oxford dictionary defines habit as a settled or regular tendency or practice or alternatively an addiction to drugs. Ok that was what the books told us, but lets see what I understood of the word habit, Habit is word or tendency such that when I remove the starting letter from it (i.e. H), I still have a-bit, if I remove the next letter (i.e. A), I am still left with bit, when I remove the next letter from that, I am left with it, I still keeping having it, now in my desperate attempt I remove the next letter from that (i.e. I), I am still left with T, i.e. tea or coffee whatever you prefer.

Love Who You Are

'To love oneself is the beginning of a life long romance.'   Oscar Wilde

To love oneself is to be happy with who we are and how we are physically spiritually and mentally. Is to accept ourselves with our attributes and imperfections, is to feel worth of love, affection, forgiveness and all the good we would desire for the ones we love.

Loving oneself however, can at times be a very difficult thing to do, even more if our past experience includes abuse, rejection, neglect chronic illness and mental or physical disability.

NLP – Neuro-Linguistic Programming

NLP is a model of effective communication to create your desired reality. It looks at modelling the way of thinking and performance of others, who have excelled and continuously attained a successful outcome. It is seen by its co-founder John Grinder as being ‘an attitude and a methodology that leaves behind a trail of techniques’.

NLP has been around since early 1970s, is used often in business, sports, education, health and other areas of daily living to help people achieve their full potential.

NLP has some basic principles, presuppositions, conditions and techniques which are proven to be of great value. Hypno-Psychotherapy

In hypnotherapy the use of language constitutes one of the most powerful tools in helping the person under hypnosis overcome a problem, unlike what some people believe hypnosis is not synonymous of sleep, in fact during hypnosis you are neither asleep nor fully awake but in a natural state of relaxation combined with a state of intense focus. When compared to sleep, hypnosis offers some marked differences despite some of the similarities.  During hypnosis for instance, it is possible to obtain  answers to questions during the hypnotic state which does not happen during sleep, also during hypnosis the individual pays attention to every word subconsciously even the ones that are softly whispered, while during sleep you will have to speak quite loud to get the individual’s attention.

Having said this, hypnosis can have some common points with sleep, in the sense that both often involve a state of deep relaxation (but not necessarily needed as a condition for hypnosis to happen e.g. stage hypnosis), both involve some physiological changes such as in breathing pattern, pulse, heart rate and facial expression.
